Okay, so you have a website, app, or online presence. You also spent a great amount of time doing things that don't scale and talking to your customers, getting the word out, and bringing them to your site. Without a way to nurture these customers, all of your efforts will be in vain. You must find a way to get those customers to convert. Convert into paying customers, recurring users, and ideally get the word out to more customers. But how does one do this? It is a very hard thing to do with various studies pointing to about a 3% conversion rate on average for e-commerce websites. But this is something we must do regardless, and we should strive to do better than 3%.
Social Proof: Include a banner or a revolving testimonial section with the clients that work with you or that endorse you. Check out Inside Design for examples.
Call to Action: Have a clear call to action that is consistent and repeated as the user scrolls down the page. Avoid too many calls to action or different actions, as this can overwhelm users and reduce participation.
Frictionless Sign up/Onboarding: Simplify the sign-up process with as few steps as possible, like using Google login instead of creating a new account and password.
Perfect Who and What Messaging: Be very clear and concise about what the product is and who it’s for.
Increase Page Speed: Aim to increase load speed to less than 2 seconds, ideally less than 1 second.
Most Important Information Above the Fold: Place the most critical information, such as the call to action and who/what messaging, on the first page without the need for scrolling.
Simplicity Wins: Keep messaging and design simple. Overly complicated designs can overwhelm users and distract from important parts like the call to action.
Include an Onboarding Tutorial: Guide new users step by step on what to do next after signing up. Focus on important features and blur out the rest.
If the Product is Complex, Include a Video on the First Page: Highlight relevant parts of the video for the user's comfort level and unique selling proposition. Blur insignificant parts and avoid overwhelming users with too much information.
Include Lead Magnets on Your Page: Offer valuable information like blog posts, white papers, or a freemium part of your product in exchange for contact info or account creation.
Create User Email Sequences: Continuously nurture customers with email sequences, guiding them through the funnel.
For Better Conversions, Include Live Chat on Your Site: Offer live help via chat for users browsing your products. This personalized interaction can be very appealing.
Build Community: Create spaces like Discord/Slack/Private Facebook groups for your users and continuously engage with them.
Use A/B Tests to Experiment: Test different website/product variations using tools like Optimizely or VWO. Refer to this guide for more help.
